Breathing And Exhale Flashcards

1
Q

Q

What is the bronchiole

A

The part of the bronchus that splits again into thousands of smaller tubes called bronchioles which take air deeper into the lungs

Q

Whats the aveoli

A

Tony air sacs found at the end of bronchioles where oxygen moves into the blood and Co2 moves out

Q

What are the intercostal muscles

A

Muscles that run between the ribs and from the chest wall - they contract and relax with the diaphragm when you breathe

Q

What happens to the body’s components when inhaling

A

Diaphragm: contracts and hardens, moves upwards
Intercostal muscles: contracts up and out
Ribcage: volume increases and stretches
Pressure inside chest: decreases below atmospheric pressure
Movement of air: moves into lungs

Q

Describe the journey of respiration

A

Oxygen molecules move from alveoli into into your body and blood capillaries to be taken to the heart or lungs. blood carries the oxygen to all your body’s cells. Inside the cells, oxygen helps make energy. While doing that, it creates a waste gas called carbon dioxide which is removed from aveoli and breathed out of our Nasal and Buccal cavities.

Q

Describe ventilation

A

During inhalation the diaphragm contracts enabling the intercostal muscles to also contract. This increases the volume of the ribcage and therefore decreases the pressure for air to move in.
