What are the key things to check in urinalysis?
- Date
- Name and DOB of patient
- Smell
- Colour
- tap urine off the bottle
- Put lid back on ASAP
- Have tissue ready
What are the things to check for the hands in cardio and rest
- temp
- radial pulse and RR
- Cap refill
- Finger clubbing
- Asteraxis
- Fine tremor
How should use my hands for abdominal exam
- light and deep- front of hand and push
- palpate organs- side of hand
- remeber to percuss and check for X2 kidneys
Red Flags: MSK
Night sweats pain or stiffness- if stiffness is it neck? fatigue muscle wasting muscle weakness recent accidents
Red Flags: Respiratory
Haemoptysis
breathlessness
chest pain
cough- sputum? (colour)
Red Flags: Cardiovascular
Palpatations
cough
heartburn
chest pain- stabbing, gripping, sharp
Red Flags: Dizziness
Tinnitus discharge -Vertigo?? (room spinning) -sudden or gradual hearing loss -recent infection/cold -migraines -headaches -facial palsies -feeling of "fullness"
Red Flags: Rash
bleeding rash skin lesions Pain itch discharge blistering
Examination: ABCDE
Red Flags: Urinary Symptoms
- Oliguria or pyuria
- problem with waterworks
- nocturia
- bed wetting
- burning pain - UTI!
- Dribbling
- Vomiting, dizziness?
Systemic:
- fever
- loss of appetite
- haemoptysis
- confusion
- mood
- blood diarrhoea
- melena
What special tests must not be forgotten in cardio exam
-carotid pulse and bruit
-mitral stenosis
-aortic regurgitation
-collapsing pulse/galloping rhythm?
