What does the patient need to expose?
Socks and shoes
-Expose one knee at least
What are the X3 main steps?
(Examine BOTH feet)
-Inspection
-Palpation
-Sensation
(Look, Feel, Move)
Inspection
Examine between toes, feet, palmer aspect, toe nails, ulcers, erythema, DVT, pallor, colour
-callouses- individuals with diabetes bare weight on the wrong areas of the feet
-Footwear- have they been worn specific areas
Palpation
Temperature
Pulses- posterior tibialis and dorsalis pedis
Peripheral Oedema
-Cap refill- circulation measurement
Sensation
Check both feet and compare
Use the 10mg mon filaments to check sensation at X5 points of the feet (BOTH)
(X3 Heads and X3 big toes)
Micorfilament 10mg
touch the 1st, 3rd and 5th metatarsal heads
-then 2 points on plantar aspect of the foot
