Q
How is the blood pressure measurement taken?
A
-The RADIAL artery is palpated
-The cuff is inflated until the pulse is no longer palpated
-Take a record of this number and deflate the cuff, this is the estimated systolic blood pressure
Part 2: Kortkoff sounds
-place the bell of the stethoscope over the Brachial Artery. (LOCATED MEDIALLY)
-Re-inflate the cuff to about 20-30 mmhg above the est. systolic bp.
-Deflate the cuff until the 1st sound is heard= systolic bp
-Continue deflating until silent = diastolic bp
