What malocclusion is a twin block used to tx?
Class II skeletal or class II incisal
At what age are functional appliances recommended
Use during active growth
10-12 in female and 11-14 for males
What instructions to give to someone with functional appliance?
Wear it day and night including when eating
Remove for contact sport - must wear mouthguard instead
Reassure speech/ salivation/ aching jaw muscles

Why should mouth guard be used for contact sports w/ these pt?
increased overjet - increased risk incised trauma
What is a common sign that bite block is being worn?
Bilateral open bite
What tx is commonly provided after twin block?
Transition period prior to fixed appliance - wear at night for 3 months and re-assess for need XLA and fixed appliance
What advice give pt having fixed appliance?
Pain mx - will be painful after adjustment, use simple painkillers
Loose arch wire/ brackets can cause soft tissue trauma
Dietary advice inc sticky, chewy or hard food

Need retainer post tx
How mx white spots/ demineralisation in ortho pt?
Fluoride products - may not remove discolouration
