What are symptoms of of anaphylaxis
Inspiratory stridor
Wheeze
Hypotension
Tachycardia
GI symptoms - vomit etc
What are signs of anaphylaxis?
Sudden onset
Hives/ urticaria
Upper airway angiooedema
Flushing or pallor
What is a late sign of anaphylaxis?
Cyanosis
What are the 3 signs of anaphylaxis to look out for?
Sudden and rapid onset
Life threatening airway/ breathing or circulation issues
Skin and/or mucosal changes
What type of hypersensitivity is anaphylaxis?
Type I = immediate
What is patho-physiology of anaphylaxis?
Antigen crosslinking w/ membrane bound IgE - release of vasoactive mediators
What are the differentials if suspect anaphyaxis?
Vasovagal reaction
Asthma
COPD
Panic/ anxiety attack
Basic principle of managing ME?
ABCDE
Airway, breathing, circulation, disability, exposure
How to manage anaphylaxis
Stop procedure
Remove cause of reaction
Clear airway
Call for help
Loosen tight clothing
Administer 1ml of 1: 1000 adrenaline IM
Administer high flow oxygen
How often to repeat adrenaline?
Every 5 mins
How should pt be positioned if anaphylaxis?
If conscious lay flat
If unconscious recovery position
