Caries prevention advice for a 3-year old high caries risk?
As per DBOH
Brush 2x day (supervised), must be last thing at night and one other time, spit no rinse
To use smear 1450ppm toothpaste
To be taken to dentist every 3 months
Reducing intake sugar - reduced frequency/ amount
When should child be supervised brushing?
Until can tie shoelaces - that’s when will have manual dexterity
What advice to give to 7-year old who is high caries risk?
Toothpaste at least 1450ppm
Brushing 2x day
Use of daily sodium fluoride mouth rise (0.05%) - different time to brushing
What diet advice to give to children?
Reducing both frequency and amount of sugar in the diet
What prevention would do in general practice?
Fluoride varnish application - minimum 2 x + year (between 2-4 times a year)
FS all permanent molars
What are tx options for lower right deciduous molar w/ buccal sinus?
XLA
Buccal sinus is sign of chronic infection - as pt is young and likely has poor OH any chance at saving tooth unlikely to be successful
What to do if suspect caries is sign of neglect?
Act in child best interest and contact safeguarding lead
When is it advised child first sees dentist?
BSPD - dental check by 1. Allows early OH and diet advice to be given
