Organization Of The Human Nervous System Flashcards
Inhibitory interneuron
A short neuron which forms an inhibitory synapses with the motor neuron innervating the hamstring muscle. So not only does the quadricep contract but the hamstrings relax. When the sensory neuron is stimulated by stretch it stimulates both the quadriceps motor neuron in the inhibitory Internet on to the hamstring motor neuron. As a result the quadriceps contract in the hamstring relaxes.
Reciprocal inhibition
Relaxation of one muscle in the contraction of another. When a sensory neuron is stimulated by stretch and stimulates both the motor neuron and the inhibitory Interneuron to another motor neuron
Monosynaptic reflex arc
A reflex only involving two neurons and one synapse. An example is the muscle stretch reflex.
