Q

Broadbent filter model of selective attention

A

Inputs from the environment first intersensory buffer one of these inputs is in selected and filtered based on physical characteristics of the input this theoretical filter is designed to keep our brains from being overloaded other sensory information stays in the sensory buffer briefly then quickly decays. Only the attended ear information is allowed to pass through the filter.

Q

Friedman attenuation model of selective attention

A

Tried to account for the cocktail party effect. believed that rather than a filter, the mind has an attenuator which works like a volume knob and turns down the unintended sensory input rather than eliminating it

Q

Spotlight model

A

The spotlight is a beam that can shine anywhere within an individual’s visual field it is important to note that this beam describe the movement of attention not the movement of eyes. Shift send attention actually proceed the corresponding eye movements. The shifting of attention requires us to unlock the beam from its current target, move the focus, and lock onto a new target.

Q

Binding problem

A

Perception is processed in the brain by a feature detectors that examine the different aspects of an object such as color shape orientation etc. **The problem of how all these different aspects are simple together in related to a single object rather than something else in the visual field
