ORGANISATION - Plant Organ Systems Flashcards
Transpiration
The loss of water from the leaves
Effect Of Temperature On Transpiration
Increase in temperature will increase the rate as more energy is transferred to the water to allow it to evaporate
Effect Of Humidity On Transpiration
Increase in humidity will decrease the rate as the air contains more water vapour so the concentration gradient for diffusion is lower
Effect Of Air Movement On Transpiration
Faster air flow will increase the rate as it will blow away water vapour allowing more to evaporate
Effect Of Light Intensity On Transpiration
Increased light intensity will increase the rate as it will cause stomata to open
What Is The Role Of The Stomata And Guard Cells
Are to control gas exchange and water loss
What Does The Stomata Do?
At night stomata is closed due to no photosynthesis taking place in the dark so stomata closes. When water is plentiful guards cells take up water and bend. This causes stomata to open so gases for photosynthesis are free to move in and out of stomata along with water from transpiration.
Translocation
Movement of food through phloem tissue. Phloem tissue transports dissolved sugars from leaves to the rest of the plant
