INHERITANCE VARIATION AND EVOLUTION - Genetic Inheritance Flashcards
1
Q
Alleles
A
Each gene may have different forms called alleles e.g gene for attachement of earlobes has 2 alleles - attached or free. One allele from the mother one from the father
2
Q
Genotype
A
Combination of the alleles present in a gene e.g bb
3
Q
Phenotype
A
How alleles are expressed (what characteristics appears) e.g blue eyes
4
Q
Homozygous
A
If 2 alleles present are the same e.g BB or bb
5
Q
Heterozygous
A
If alleles are different e.g Bb
6
Q
Dominant
A
Is always expressed even if only one copy is
present
7
Q
Recessive
A
Only expressed if two copies are present (therefore no dominant allele present)
