BIOENERGETICS - Respiration Flashcards
Respiration
Exothermic reaction. Releases energy from glucose molecules for use by the body. Organisms need energy for chemical reactions to build larger molecules, Movement and Keep warm
Aerobic Respiration
Glucose + Oxygen –> Carbon Dioxide + Water
C6H12O6 O2 CO2 H20
Anaerobic Respiration
Glucose not completely broken down. Means that it transfers much less energy than aerobic respiration. Process of anaerobic respiration is different in animal to the process found in plants and yeast.
Anaerobic Respiration In Animals
Glucose –> Lactic Acid. In animals lactic acid is produced
Anaerobic Respiration In Plants And Yeast
Glucose –> Ethanol + Carbon Dioxide. In plants and yeast alcohol (ethanol) and carbon dioxide are produced. In yeast cells anaerobic respiration is called fermentation
What Is The Difference Between Aerobic And Anaerobic?
Respiration in cells can be aerobic which is with oxygen or anaerobic without oxygen
