Orchestra conductor study Flashcards
Orchestra conductor study
Nonverbal cues: Body movements and gestures, facial expressions as sole medium of leadership during a performance
Indicated how perceived expressiveness/age predicted perceived leadership success
Thin-slice approach
The impression perceived from ‘thin slices’ of nonverbal behaviour.
Implicit leadership theories
Ideas people have about what makes a successful leader. Can be influenced by culture, but hgenrally help understand/identify leadership traits.
Leader prototypes
Abstract representations of leaders, people rely on these to assess potential and ability of others. Eg expressiveness or age.
Context
Important factor in predicting success, studies are in context where leaders have limited direct contact. It’s uncertain if cues still predict it when leaders are closely interacting w followers.
