Effort recovery and detachment Flashcards
Effort recovery model
Stages:
Acute load reactions
Incomplete unwinding (too little recovery)
Suboptimal condition (still tired from previous work)
Additional effort (necessary to perform)
Accummulative load reactions.
Therefore, recovery only occurs when demands are removed from systems involved in the activity.
Recovery experience
Relaxation: Mental rest, little effort (fundamental to recover)
Sleep: quality/quantity
Autonomy; me-time, choice
Mastery: Creativity, hobby
Meaning: Purpose, personal growth
affiliation: Family/friends
Detachment: seeking distraction, facilitate recovery (sleep quality, mood and well-being)
Detachment
Recharging batteries by switching off. provides break and later willingness to expend new effort.
Sleep deprevation
Total (sustained wakefulness > 24hrs)
Partial (restricted sleep <6 hrs)
Affects performance through reduced focus and determination/processing and logical thinking. Also mood problems, risk of injury etc.
Compromise transmission speed of impulses from brain to muscle
