Pressure arises from situational incentives for optimal performance. eg observation of spectators, contingency of punishment/reward and social importance of the task
Cognitive vs somatic
Cognitive anxiety is the mental component, like worry, rumination, poor focus etc.
Somatic anxiety is the physical component, reflecting the perception of physiological arousal
Time-to-event nature of pre-competitive state anxiety
Cognitive is quite high the weeks before the event, the somatic only just before. The decrease is quite rapid. If the event goes well, cog goes down, if not, can increase
