Social identity approach
Asserts that psychology and behaviour of team mebers is not only shaped by capacity to think, feel and behave as individuals but also as group members.
Leaders effectiveness depends on extent they are able to create a shared identity w the group. A sense of us, which strengthens the impact on teammates confidence and performance
Abusive supervision/coaching
In the eyes of the beholder; the extent to which supervisors engage in sustained display of hostile verbal/nonverbal behaviour (excluding physical contact)
- Based on subjective perception of the followers
- Not necessarily intent of leader to harm
Associated w negative outcomes for employees and team members; reduced self-efficacy/anxiety
Field study amongst athletes wrt ethical/abusive coaching
Mixed model: individual and team level.
- Looked at what each individual perceived as well as the mean value of the team.
Outcome;
- whether climate is inclusive
- Whether they would be willing to cheat
- College choice satisfaction
Ethical leadership was positively related to inclusive environment and were more satisfied w choice. BUT no ass w willingness to cheat.
Abusive was still related to willingness to cheat
Multidimensional Model of Leadership
Antecedents:

Leader behavior
- Required behaviour; Dependent on environment
- Actual beh; Formed by both req and preferred
- preferred beh: determined by team needs
This decides performance/satisfaction level.

reactive behaviours:
- Desirable performance (pos/neg reinforcement)
- Mistakes/errors
- Misbehaviour
