Obeying Signals and reporting Module S7 Flashcards
Trains with ERTMS
On a line with lineside signals, if you receive a MA on the DMI to pass a signal at danger what should you do?
Stop train
Contact signaller
If your signalled towards a wrong route what should you do?
Stop train
Contact signaller
If the exit signal for a siding is clear but that signal applies to multiple trains standing in these sidings what should you do?
Must not allow the front of your train to foul any other sidings unless the person in charge of movements gives you permission to do so.
If you signal is not showing correctly or not showing anything how do you treat it?
- Stop signal at danger
- Distant signal at caution
- Positron light/shunt/subsidiary as normal
If you have stopped or are stopping at one of the following signals and it clears what must you do
- a colour light signal that cant display a yellow
- semaphore signal
Be prepared to stop at the next stop signal controlled by that signal box.
if you have had to stop the train on the approach to a signal that was at proceed what must you do before you restart your train?
Check the signal is still at proceed before restarting your engine.
(if the train cant continue you must tell the signaller immediately)
if you have had to stop the train with ERTMS installed before the end of a MA, what must you do before you restart the train?
Check the MA is still active and valid
if the train cant continue you must tell the signaller immediately
if you stop the train before the train has fully passed a proceed aspect what must you do?
You can continue on the authority of the previous signal. Unless told not to.
On a passenger train, can you proceed on the authority of a:
- semaphore shunt signal
- position light signal
for anything other than permissive platform working?
No, only if you are authorised by a publication or the signallers authority, or someone acting on the signaller authority.
On a passenger train, can you proceed on the authority of the below for the purpose of permissive platform working:
- semaphore shunt signal
- position light signal
Yes
If a position light or subsidiary signal is cleared but the normal route indicator is not shown what can you do?
Proceed, but
- at caution
be prepared to stop short of any obstruction.
If you have made a shunt movement beyond a position light, shunt signal, semaphore shunt signal what two things must you do before continuing with your journey?
- Return to the approach side of the signal, and
- make sure it is showing proceed
When a shunt move requires a reverse and the train does not have ERTMS you can only allow the movement to take place when one of the following applies? (4 items)
- the signal for that movement is cleared
- Signaller gives permission to move towards a signal which will instruct you
- Leading edge of train is past signal and signal cant be cleared as a result
- There is no signal for that movement and the signaller gives you permission for it.
When a shunt move requires a reverse and the train does have ERTMS you can only allow the movement to take place when one of the following applies? (2 items)
- MA received
- No signalled route for that movement and the signaller gives you permission
Reverse movement: When a signal can be cleared:
If your train is standing ahead of a signal for a reverse movement what must you ensure before making the movement?
That the signal is cleared.
