The immediate things you do following an accident?
Hazard warning lights on (or red light forward)
Tell the signaller and request OLE shutoff if required.
Then check;
which lines obstructed and decide quickest way to stop trains.
Know your exact location
After an accident, once the signaller has told you signal protection has been provided what must you still then do?
TCOC on all obstructed lines
TCOC on your line if fully derailed.
Following an accident if the signaller has told you you have signal protection do you still need to lay TCOC’s?
Yes
When must you carry out full emergency protection?
When signaller can not provide signal protection,
Signaller cannot be contacted.
If you need help protecting a line who can you ask and what must you make sure of?
Guard or other competent person and make sure they have a clear understanding what they are doing and where.
If you have to carry out emergency protection alone which lines do you protect first.
Lines other than your own first, and then decide which direction on the other lines trains are most likely to come from.
[you would put a TCOC on your own line first if you have fully derailed]
When carrying out emergency protection if you are unsure which lines are obstructed what must you do?
Treat them all as obstructed.
How far must you walk from a a accident/ derailment before laying detonators? (Assuming no exception occurs)

How many detonators do you lay?

How far do you place the detonators away from each other?
20m
How far should you stand away from detonators?
30m
How do you lay emergency protection? (Generic version)
- TCOC on your line is derailed
- TCOC on every obstructed line
- Proceed 2km in the directions train will come.
- Lay three detonators
- Stand there with a red danger flag out.
When in an ESW or TBW area what do you need to do?
Lay protection on your line also, even if not derailed.
When you have carried no out emergency protection what can you do the ?
Either continue walking to find a signal post phone to talk to signaller or go back to your train.
Where would you place the detonators on a double track line if you have an accident?
The other line 2km in the direction of approaching trains.
