OB - Module 3 Flashcards
Chadwick’s sign
Bluish color of the cervix
Goodell’s sign
Softening of the cervix
Nonstress test
Mom is reclined, knees bent, on left side.
Baseline VS are gathered and ultrasound/tocotransducer are put on the mother (FHR monitor)
Mom pushes button when she feels the baby moving. HR should be 110-160 with accelerations during fetal movement.`
Vibroacoustic stimulation
Used to awaken the baby to confirm a nonreactive stress test..
Contraction stress test
Used to evaluate fetal oxygenation and further evaluate a nonstress test. Get 3 contractions lasting 40-60 seconds/10 minute period. Negative means there are no late generations and is a good result
Biophysical profile
Assesses FHR, breathing movement, gross fetal movement, fetal tone, amniotic fluid volume, and placental grading. Used to give a complete picture of fetal health and identify hypoxia or acidemia
Oligohydramnios
Decreased amniotic fluid. indicator of fetal hypoxia
Percutaneous umbilical blood sampling
Blood from umbilical cord is used to test for Rh disease, coagulation defects, and acidosis. Needle is inserted in umbilical vein using a ultrasound to guide. They then monitor for bleeding and FHR for 30-60 minutes
Rh-negative
RhoGAM is given to these women to prevent sensitization to rh.
Fetal kick assessment
Mother counts kicks for 30 mins 3x a day. Notify physician if there are
