Q

Normal causes of nasal bleeds

A

HTN and high PTT/INR

17
Q

How to treat anterior nasal bleeds

A

Pinch nose, lean forward, and apply ice. USE HUMIDIFIER WITH OXYGEN

18
Q

Common decongestants

A

Pseudoephedrine. Vasoconstrict respiratory tract mucosa to squeeze out mucus and cause bronchodilation. Often abused for CNS effects

19
Q

Common antihistamines

A

Diphenhydramine (drowsy) and Loratadine (more tolerated).
Reduces allergic reactions but drys the patient and thickens mucus (not for use with thick mucus).
Cannot pee/see/spit/poop

20
Q

Common Steroid nasal sprays

A

Fluticasone. Decreases nasal inflammation but do not use more than 3-5 days or it will cause rebound stuffiness.
