What are Norms?
A
- These are standards for what behaviors are acceptable
- Sanctions: ways to rewards the behavior or punish it

Formal vs. Informal:
- Formal are norms that are written down
- Informal are norms that are understood

- Folkways: The regular types of norms
- Mores: involves emotions and strong feelings, usually a strong reaction, and based on right or wrong.
- Laws: based on right and wrong but have formal consequences
- Taboos: completely wrong in any circumstances violation is more then a more

What is deviance ? What is the theory associated with it?
A
- When norms is violated it is referred to as deviance.
- Theory of Differential Association: deviance is a learned behaviour that happens when you are exposed often to people who deviates too much from the norm.

What is labeling theory? and explain strain theory?
A
- A behaviour can only be deviant if the people of that society have judged it and label it as so
- primary deviance: little consequence
- secondary deviance: big consequence can result in stigmatized behavior
- Strain theory: if a person a person feels strain from attaining certain goals they may deviate from the norm.

Collective behavior vs group behaviors
A
- Collective behaviour is different from groups because - the collective is short terms, this is a short social interaction
- collective -can be open
- collective -have loose norms
- collective behaviour is often driven by individualization

What are the three types of collective behaviour?

- Fad: something becoming popular quickly and lose popularity as quickly
- Mass Hysteria: a lot of people experiencing delusion at the same time
- Riots: large number of people that engage in dangerous behaviors
Collectivity is a bit looser than groups
