Normann, 2001 Ch. 19 - What Leaders Need to Do Flashcards

1
Q

What is the most important trait for a leader?

A

Reality is socially constructed and enacted. This process requires interaction, and therefore communication. Normann argues that the very art of leadership is founded on an understanding of this dialectic between mental process and social objectivities which may result in grounded reframing. Leadership means to be an actor influencing and catalyzing the dialectic and to be an object in it.

Communication comes from the word communicare, which means ‘to share’.

Personal communicative capabilities of leaders are among the most important determining factors in making the communication process and the resulting co-creation of newly framed or emerging reality efficient. Rhetoric.

This capacity together with strong personal powers to imagine can turn the leader into somebody who personally more or less embodies a concept or a direction.

Q

Communication tools and basic in communication.

A

Artefacts (mission and vision and others, I guess), can be designed to trigger and stimulate conversations.

It is always easier to use artefacts to talk around/about.

Tensions is always present, and somehow needed. And tension is a social phenomenon. Tensions might lead to conflicts, but conflicts do not have to be negative.
