Normann, 2001 Ch. 12 - On Cranes and Sky-hooks - OK deck Flashcards
There are two ways to view how the future is created, which two? oine of them have three different dimensions
- The Darwinian view:
- Darwinin, neo-darwinian and post-darwinian
- Teleological explanation
Explain the Darwinian view
“evolution” = the past gives us tools that shape the future. You could use the “because of” argument. The future is determined by our history and by inherited driving forces and mechanics. This is the Darwinian view of the future.
Explain the teleological explanation
The teleological explanation, in this view the future is seen as a force in which we are developing towards. What will happen do not lie within the history but rather in the future. “In order to”.
What is Normann’s view of the future?
Normann says it is important to be aware of the history but to be able to build a crane, as a scaffold. The first step is to create the crane, with today’s (existing) knowledge and technology, and in the second step is to use the tool to explore the future and unknown. P 182.
