NOPS Study Guide Questions Flashcards

1
Q

What parameters are programmed into the DEHC panel during steady state operations near a power limit or restriction and why?

A

A 5 MW ramp down at 5 mw/min should be pre-programmed into DEHC as a contingency for a fast-moving reactivity event with the potential to overpower the reactor

Q

When manually withdrawing control rods in a critical reactor, how many steps can the operator pull rods without stopping and why? When can these requirements be relaxed?

A

The reactor operator at the controls shall stop at least every 3 steps in order to check for expected response on nuclear instruments, rod position and RCS Tave indication. The Shift Manager/Unit Supervisor may suspend the three-step pull-and-wait when the reactivity computer is in service during the performance of physics testing or during a reactor start-up when reactor power is below the point of adding heat.

Q

Why do we control delta I?

A

To limit axial power distribution skewing, thus ensuring peaking factors are w/in safety analysis assumption

Q

When should Adverse Condition monitoring OP-AA-108-111 be entered?

A

If ops supervision believes there is reduced plant operating margin or degraded equipment that could lead to: safety hazard, SCRAM, loss or trip of equipment important to nuclear safety, inadvertent entry into a 7 day or less LCO, significant loss of generation
