12
Q

How do the glycopeptides work?

A
  1. Inhibit bacterial cell wall synthesis different than B-lactams
  2. Inhibits synthesis/assembly of second stage of peptidoglycan polymers
  3. Bind firmly to D-ala D-ala which inhibits additonal peptidoglycan units to grow

16
Q

What is the blackbox warning of Telavancin?

A

Preg Category C + abnormal fetal development

17
Q

How does Dapto work?

A

Binds to bacterial membrane (not wall) and causes depolarization of membrane potential, which inhibits protein, DNA and RNA synthesis. Cell lysis does not occur

18
Q

What does Dapto cover?

A

MRSA + VRE (vanco resistant E. faecium)

19
Q

What are some AE of Dapto?

A
  1. Myopathy

2. Creatine phosphokinase elevation (monitor weekly and consider suspending statins)

20
Q

How does Bacitracin work?

A

Inhibits incorporation of AA into cell wall by inhibiting dephosphorylation of phospholipid carrier cycle + damages cell membranes
