neuro module Flashcards
CSF analysis lumbar puncture nursing intervention
- pt should have no s/s of increased ICP
- maintains lateral recumbent position
- strict asepsis
- encourage fluids, analgesia PRN
- monitor neuro status & VS
skull and spine x-rays nursing intervention
- explain procedure is non invasive
- explain positions to be assumed
cerebral angiography nursing intervention
PRIOR -assess for stroke -NPO for 1 meal -contrast may cause hot flush of head & neck -pt must be still for procedure POST -neuro checks -VS q15-30min for 2 hours, then q1h for 6 hours
CT scan nursing intervention
- assess for allergies to shellfish
- remain still during procedure
MRI/MRA nursing intervention
- screen for metal parts, pacemaker
- lie still up to 1 hour
- sedation for claustrophobia
PET/SPECT nursing intervention
- 2 IV lines
- no sedatives
- empty bladder prior
- pt may be asked to do activities
myelogram nursing intervention
PRIOR -administer sedative -empty bladder POST -lie flat for few hours -fluids -neurochecks -VS
EEG nursing intervention
- noninvasive
- no danger of electric shock
- wash electrode paste out of hair
MEG nursing intervention
- does not make contact with pt
- can pinpoint exact location of brain injury
EMG nursing intervention
pain and discomfort associated with insertion of needles
carotid duplex nursing intervention
noninvasive
transcranial doppler nursing intervention
non invasive
burr hole
opening into the cranium with a drill; used to remove localized fluid and blood beneath the dura
craniotomy
opening into cranium with removal of bone flap and opening the dura to remove a lesion, repair a damaged area, drain blood, or relieve increased ICP
craniectomy
excision into the cranium cut away bone flap
