MS- ss
F>M, 2-3rd decade of life
ss- numbness/weakness in limbs/one side of body, electric shock sensations that occur w certain neck movements , UL optic neuritis, dipliplia, ataxia, spasticity
Guillain Barre Syndrome-ss
Begins w weakness in distal extremities and progresses to involve the prox mm group
Parkinsons disease ss
resting tremor (disappears w mvmt)
bradykinesia
stiff mm
expressionless face
Bells Palsy-ss
rapid onset (<48hrs) of mild weakness to total paralysis on one side of face (full side of face)
Muscular dystrophy ss
Prox limb weakness>distal
-symetrical mm atrophy
-waddeling gait
-Gowers sign (standing up with hands pushing on knees0
ALS- def, ss
Progressive degeneration of motor cells throughout nervous system resulting in mm wasting and weakness
ss-mm cramps, fasciculation’s, clumsiness of a hand/leg, difficulty speaking/swallowing, sensory intact
Myasthenia Gravis- cause
characterized by weakness and rapid fatigue of any of the mm under voluntary control and it caused by antibodies formed against Ash receptors
Myasthenia Gravis- SS
mm weakness that progressively becomes weaker the more the muscle becomes contracted
-eye symptoms common, weak speech, difficulty chewing/swallowing
syringomyelia-ss, px
ss- mm weakness and wasting, loss of sensitivity to pain + temp
-normal light touch and proprio
-shawl like distribution
Acute meningitis ss (aseptic vs purulent)
aseptic- fever, meningeal irritation, depressed consciousness
Purulent- Headache, fever, Bruszinski sign, Kerning sign
Mc cause of meningitis- Neonates, Infants, Adolescents, Oder adults
neo- e Coli
Infants- H influenza
Adolescents- Neisseria meningitis
Older adults- Strep p.
