Nephritis Flashcards
What is the most common cause of acute
glomerulonephritis?
It is most commonly due to the deposition of exogenous antigenantibody
complexes (streptococcal infection) or endogenous
antigen-antibody complexes (collagen vascular diseases) in the
glomeruli.

What are the symptoms of interstitial nephritis?
Patients with interstitial nephritis display a decreased ability to
concentrate urine, proteinuria, and systemic hypertension.

What are the clinical signs of glomerulonephritis?
Hematuria, proteinuria (due to increased glomerular
permeability), increased plasma creatinine levels, edema, and
hypertension.

What are the causes of interstitial nephritis?
Interstitial nephritis is a disorder most commonly associated
with allergic reactions to drugs such as sulfonamides,
allopurinol, phenytoin, and diuretics. It is also less commonly
associated with diseases such as lupus erythematosus and
sarcoidosis.

What is hereditary nephritis(Alport’s syndrome)?
Hereditary nephritis is a genetic disorder most commonly seen
in males and is associated with hearing and ocular
abnormalities. The disease ultimately results in systemic
hypertension and renal failure. Drug treatment has not proved
successful in this class of patients.
