NDT Mobilization Flashcards
Scapular abduction
Palmar crease over vertebral border
PT lean away and pull scapula into abduction
Pt can turn towards PT to increase
Scapular adduction
Thenar eminence on axillary border
PT lean toward pt
Pt can turn away to increase it
Scapular depression
Hook palmar crease on spine of scap
PT gives downward pressure
Pt can sit erect to increase it
Scap elevation
Center of palm over inferior angle
Upward pressure
Pt can enhance by slumping
Trunk extension
Half knee next to pt
Wrists neutral,
Ant tilt facilitated, at end of spine ext, PT apply forward and upward pressure at apex of lumbar spine flex
Trunk flexion
PT Block thoracic flexion w/ head
Grasp ASIS bilaterally and post tilt pelvis as lumbar spine flexes
Trunk lateral shift
PT apply lateral motion in an arc
Shifting at apex of stiffness into sidebend w/ firm hand
Trunk mobe, Swiss ball
Lower level pts, support trunk
PT support pt hands by lying their forearm over pt
Prior to UE activities (NDT)
Establish normal scap mobility and GHJ ROM
Optimize alignment
Normalize tone
Prepare the extremity
Rules of sequencing - UE control
WB w/ control precedes nonWB function of WB w/ control
Proximal -> distal in WB and nonWB
Postural control —> moving and control through transition
Small increments precede large increments in ROM w/ control
Open hand before graded grasp, hand closing
Unilateral —> bilateral
Sequence of handling
- WB on stable surface
- WB on mobile surface
- WB arm moves on stable body
- WB support w/ object in the hand
- NWB w/ object in hand
- NWB w/ free hand
WB on stable surface
Sequence of handling step 1.
Body moves on arm on midline in and out of midline
Facilitate over triceps and post elbow to encourage ext
WB on mobile surface
Sequence of handling step 2
Body and arm move together
WB through hand facilitated by putting pressure through thenar and hypothenar eminence
WB arm moves on stable body
Sequence of handling step 3
Plane hand on object that will allow WB for normalization of tone, but allow movement of arm
