Mechanism of Action
-acts as competitive antagonist at opiate receptors in the CNS
-reverses effects of narcotic and synthetic analgesic drugs: CNS depression, respiratory depression, respiratory arrest

-narcotic and synthetic analgesic drug overdose
(morphine, heroin, oxycodone, methadone, codeine, meperidine, fentanyl, hydrocodone, hydromorphone)
-unconsciousness of unknown etiology

-none in emergency setting

Adverse reactions
-withdrawal symptoms
such as:
-confusion
-hypotension
-tachycardia
-hypertension
-dysrhythmias
-diaphoresis
-nausea, vomiting

2-10 minutes

Adult Doses
- 2.0mg, may repeat every 2 minutes
-ET: 4.0mg diluted in 10mL NS
-IN: 1.0mg sprayed in each nostril with MAD. may repeat every 2 minutes

Pediatric Doses
- 0.1 mg/kg (max 2.0 mg per dose) may repeat every 2 minutes
-ET: 2.0-4.0 mg diluted in 3-5mL NS
-IN: 1.0mg sprayed in each nostril with MAD. may repeat every 2 minutes

Special Consideration
-duration is 20 minutes to 2 hours
