Mechanism of action

A

-produces sedation by acting on limbic system, the thalamus, and hypothalamus
-binds to gamma-amino butyric acid (GABA) benzodiazepine receptors in the brain
-raises seizure threshold
-produces tranquillizing (anti anxiety) effect on CNS
