Naji Flashcards
Habitat
Place where an organism Lives
Population
All the organisms of one particular species found in one habitat
Community
All the different species in a habitat.
Ecosystem
All the organisms living in a particular area and all the non-living conditions
Biodiversity
The variety of different species of organisms on Earth/ or within a particular ecosystem
Why is a high Biodiversity beneficial to the environment?
Makes Ecosystems stable as it ensures foodchains remain stable
Bears– Birds —- Maggots
|
Ants
Look at the food chain. What will happen if the maggot Population becomes extinct?
If maggot population becomes extinct, bird population will begin to use ants more as their primary source of food income. This will negatively impact the Ant population (Decrease in size of Ant Population)
A decrease in Ant Population will then result in the Birds decreasing in number and therefore Bear Population
Why does Biodiversity decrease?
Increase in Deforestation (loss of habitat)
Global Warming
Decrease in Stability of our Ecosystem
Pollution
How does the producer make food?
Use energy from the sun to make it’s own food
What is normally the producer in a food chain?
Plants
What are decomposers?
Break down decomposers and waste
What is a trophic level?
Each level of a food chain
What does the arrow show?
Each arrow is a representation of the transfer of Energy
Why is Energy Transfer across each stage never 100% efficient?
Not all of the organisms will be eaten
Not all of the contents of the prey is eaten, resulting in loss of energy across trophic levels
Where is energy lost in a Producer?
30% of absorbed energy is lost via photosynthesis
5 % of absorbed energy is lost as heat
5 % of absorbed energy converted to chemical energy
50% Wrong Wavelength
5% Reflected
4 % Passes through leaf
