Muslces Of The Lowerlimb Trunk Flashcards
Sternocelidomastoid
Sternum/clavicle/mastoid process
Attachments: sternum and clavicle
To base of skull (bump behind ears is mastoid process
Function: flexes neck-when both sides contract
Rotates head- when one side contracts
*on the anterior side of the neck=neck flexion
Erector spinae(upper portion)
Posterior about neck
Attachments:
From sacrum to ilium (posterior) to base of the skull (back)
Function:
-upper portion extends neck
-lower portion extends trunk
Abdominals
Rectus abdominis (more superficial)
Obliques (2) *internal and external
Transversus abdominals
Rectus abdominis
Attachments:
-sternum and adjacent ribs to pubis bone
Function:
Trunk flexion and pelvis stabilization
Ex, touching your toes
External oblique
Attachments:
-lateral ribs downward to anterior crest of ilium, ubis and linea alba
Functions:
Trunk flexion, rotation, pelvis stabilization
Internal oblique
Attachments:
-linea alba downward to lateral crest of pubis and ilium
Function:
-trunk flexion and rotation, pelvis stabilization
Transverse abdominis (3rd layer deep)
Attachments:
Linea alba to lower ribs, crest of ilium and to spine
Function:
-compresses abdomen, spine and trunk stabilization
Erector spinae (lower portion)
Posterior side of body, attach to scapula
Function :
Trunk extension, anti gravity muscle, very important in back injury prevention
Trapezius
Proximal attachment:
-base of skull to T12 vertebra
Distal attachment:
-spine of the scapula (shoulder blade)
Function:
Upper - scapular elevation (neck extension)
Middle- shoulder retraction (scapula adduction)
Lower- shoulder depression
Serratus Anterior
Proximal attachment:
-anterior medial border of scapula
Distal:
-anterior ribs 1-8
Function
-shoulder protraction (scapular abduction)
