Musculoskeletal Assessment Flashcards
The body’s bones, muscles, and joints
compose the musculoskeletal system.
Controlled and innervated by the nervous
system, the musculoskeletal system’s overall
purpose is to provide structure and movement
for body parts.
Musculoskeletal Assessment
provide structure, give protection, serve
as levers, store calcium, and produce
blood cells. Two hundred and six (206)
bones make up the axial skeleton(head
and trunk) and the appendicular
skeleton (extremities, shoulders, and
hips
Bones
The body consists of three types of
muscles: skeletal, smooth, and cardiac.
Skeletal Muscles
Is the place where two or more bones
meet.
● Provide a variety of ranges of motion
(ROM) for the body parts and may be
classified as fibrous, cartilaginous, or
synovial.
Joints
responsible for coordinating the functions of the skeleton and muscles.
Therefore, it is important to understand how
these systems relate to each other and to ask
questions accordingly.
musculoskletal
Motion
increases pain
associated with many
joint problems but
decreases pain
associated with
rheumatoid arthritis.
Older
clients who have
__ or
osteoporosis are at
even greater risk for
fractures
osteomalacia
is more
common as a person
ages because that is
a time when bone
resorption increases,
calcium absorption
decreases and
production of
osteoblasts decreases
as well.
Osteoporosis
for example, can
alter electrolyte levels
leading to muscle
weakness
Diuretics
can deplete bone
mass, thereby
contributing to
osteoporosis
Steroids
can include
myopathy, which can
cause muscle aches
or weakness.
Adverse reactions to
HMG-CoA reductase
inhibitors c
