Muscular System Pt. 6 - Muscles of The Anterior Forearm Flashcards
What are the anterior compartment of forearm muscles mainly known for?
Flexors of Wrist
How many groups are there in the anterior compartment? How many muscles do they each have
Three groups: Superficial, Intermediate, and Deep
Superficial: 4 Muscles
Intermediate: 1 Muscle
Deep: 3 Muscles
Superficial group all have common flexor origin (Medial epicondyle of humerus)
What are the muscles that make up the superficial anterior forearm muscles
Pronator Teres, Flexor carpi radialis, Palmaris longus, Flexor carpi ulnaris
Origin of Superficial Anterior Forearm Muscles
Medial epicondyle of the humerus
Insertions of Pronator Teres
Lateral side of radius
Insertion of Flexor Carpi Radialis
Metacarpals
Insertion of palmaris longus
Palmar aponeurosis
Big connective tissue deep to the skin all on the palm
Insertion of flexor carpi ulnaris
Pisiform; metacarpals
More towards the ulnar side
Which superficial anterior forearm muscles display elbow flexion?
Pronator Teres, Flexor Carpi Radialis, Palmaris longus, and Flexor Carpi ulnaris
All 4 of them
Which superficial anterior forearm muscles display wrist flexion?
All except for Pronator Teres
What action is unique to Pronator Teres?
Pronates forearm
No wrist flexion
What muscles make up the Intermediate anterior forearm muscles?
Flexor Digitorium Superficialis or FDS
Flexing the digits on the outside
Origin of Flexor Digitorium Superficialis (FDS)
Medial Epicondyle of humerus (CFO), Ulna and Radius
Insertions of Flexor Digitorium Superficialis (FDS)
Middle phalanges from digits 2-5
Actions of FDS
Flexion of elbow, wrist and fingers
DOES NOT GO THROUGH DISTAL PHALANX (only the other two)
