Muscle Chart: The Brachium Flashcards
Biceps Brachii
Origin, Insertion, Innervation, Blood Supply
Origin: Long head — supraglenoid tubercle of scapula; Short head — coracoid process of the scapula
Insertion: Radial tuberosity and bicipital aponeurosis
Innervation: Musculotaneous Nerve (C5, C6, C7)
Blood Supply: Brachial Artery
Biceps Brachii Movements
- Flexes elbow
- Flexes shoulder
- Supinates forearm
Brachialis
Origin, Insertion, Innervation, Blood Supply
Origin: Anterior surface of distal humerus
Insertion: Coronoid process and tuberosity of the ulna
Innervation: Musculocutaneous Nerve (C5, C6) and partial from Radial Nerve (C5, C7)
Blood Supply: Brachial Artery
Brachialis Movements
-Flexes elbow
Coracobrachialis
Origin, Insertion, Innervation, Blood Supply
Origin: Coracoid process of the scapula
Insertion: Medial surface of mid humeral shaft
Innervation: Musculocutaneous Nerve (C5, C6)
Blood Supply: Brachial Artery
Coracobrachialis Movements
- Flexes shoulder
- Adducts shoulder
Triceps
Origin, Insertion, Innervation, Blood Supply
Origin: Long Head — infraglenoid tubercle of scapula; Lateral Head — posterior proximal humerus; Medial Head — posterior surface of distal half of humerus
Insertion: Olecranon of ulna and forearm fascia
Innervation: Radial Nerve (C6, C7, C8 and T1)
Blood Supply: Deep artery of the arm (Profunda brachii artery)
Triceps Movements
- Extends the elbow
- Long Head — Extends and adducts shoulder
Anconeus
Origin, Insertion, Innervation, Blood Supply
Origin: Lateral epicondyle of humerus
Insertion: Olecranon and posterior proximal ulna
Innervation: Radial Nerve (C6, C7, C8, T1)
Blood Supply: Not specified in muscle chart
Anconeus Movements
-Extends the elbow but more likely pulls the capsule away from the joint to avoid impingement
