Insertion: Calcaneus via the calcanea tendon
Innervation: Tibial nerve (L5, S1, S2)

Flexes the knee
Soleus
Origin, Insertion, Innervation, Blood Supply
Origin: Soleal line (proximal), posterior surface of tibia and posterior aspect of head of fibula
Distal: Calcaneus vis the calcanea tendon
Innervation: Tibial nerve (L5, S1, S2)
Blood Supply: Posterior tibial artery

Plantar flexes the ankle
Plantaris

Origin: Lateral supracondylar line of the femur
Insertion: Calcaneus vis the calcanea tendon
Innervation: Tibial nerve (L4, L5, S1, S2)
Blood Supply: Posterior tibial artery

Flexor Hallucis Longus

Origin: Middle 1/2 of posterior fibula
Insertion: Plantar surface of the distal phalanx
Innervation: Tibial nerve (S2, S3)
Blood Supply: Fibular and posterior tibial

Flexes digit 1
Very weak plantar flexion
Invert foot
Supports longitudinal arch of the foot
Flexor Digitorum Longus
Origin, Insertion, Innervation, Blood Supply
Origin: Middle posterior surface of tibia
Insertion: Distal phalanges of digits 2-5
Innervation: Tibial nerve (S2, S3)
Blood Supply: Posterior tibial artery
Flexor Digitorum Longus Movements
Flexes digits 2-5
Weak plantar flexion
Inversion of foot
Supports longitudinal arch of foot
Posterior Tibialis
Origin, Insertion, Innervation, Blood Supply
Origin: Proximal posterior shaft of tibia and fibula; interosseous membrane
Insertion: All 5 tarsal bones and bases of 2-4 metatarsals
Innervation: Tibial nerve (L4, L5, S1)
Blood Supply: Posterior tibial
