Muscle Chart: Anterior Leg Compartment And Dorsum Of Foot Flashcards
Tibialis Anterior
Origin, Insertion, Innervation, Blood Supply
Origin: lateral condyle of the tibia and lateral surface of the tibia and interosseous membrane
Insertion: Medial cuneiform and base of 1st metatarsal
Innervation: Deep peroneal nerve (L4, L5)
Blood Supply: Anterior tibial artery
Tibailis Anterior Movements
Inverts the foot
Dorsiflexes the ankle (talocrural joint)
Extensor Hallucis Longus
Origin, Insertion, Innervation, Blood Supply
Origin: Middle anterior surface of fibula and interosseous membrane
Insertion: Distal phalanx of the 1st digit
Innervation: Deep peroneal (L4, L5)
Blood Supply: Anterior tibial
Extensor Hallucis Longus Movements
Extends digit 1
Dorsiflexes the ankle (talocrural joint)
Inverts the foot
Extensor Digitorum Longus
Origin, Insertion, Innervation, Blood Supply
Origin: Lateral condyle of the tibia, proximal anterior shaft of the fibula and interosseous membrane
Insertion: Middle and distal phalanges of digits 2-5
Innervation: Deep peroneal (L4, L5, S1)
Blood Supply: Anterior tibial
Extensor Digitorum Longus Movements
Extends digits 2-5
Dorsiflexes the ankle
Evert the foot
Peroneus/Fibular Tertius
Origin, Insertion, Innervation, Blood Supply
Origin: Distal 1/3 of the anterior fibula
Insertion: Dorsal surface of the base of the 5th metatarsal
Innervation: Deep peroneal (L4, L5, S1)
Blood Supply: Fibular artery
Peroneus/Fibularis Tertius Movements
Works with the extensor digitorum longus to dorsiflex the ankle
Weakly everts the foot and assists in extending digit 5
Extensor Hallucis Brevis
Origin, Insertion, Innervation, Blood Supply
Origin: Dorsal surface of the calcaneus (sinus tarsi)
Insertion: Proximal phalanx of 1st toe
Innervation: Deep peroneal (L4, L5, S1)
Blood Supply: Dorsalis pedis artery
Extensor Hallucis Brevis Movements
Extends the great toe at MTP joint
Extensor Digitorum Brevis
Origin, Insertion, Innervation, Blood Supply
Origin: Dorsal surface of calcaneus
Insertion: 2nd and 4th toes via the extensor digitorum longus tendons
Innervation: Deep peroneal (L4, L5, S1)
Blood Supply: Dorsalis pedis artery
Extensor Digitorum Brevis Movements
Extend 2-4 toes at MTP, PIP and DIP joints
