General Stats
F: M 2.3 : 1
Average age of onset 30
3rd most common cause of disabling illness in persons between ages 15-50
Diagnosis: 2 attacks separated in time and space, MRI, CSF
Disease course
Relapsing remitting 60%
Chronic progressive, primary or secondary 20%
Benign, occasional relapses 20%
Malignant, 5% of patients die within 5 years
Movement impairments
Ataxia
Tremor
Spasticity
Paresis - weakness of voluntary movement
Plegia- paralysis
Sensation impairments
Pain
Parasthesiae
Other symptoms
Optic neuritis- inflammation of optic nerve, causing complete or partial loss of vision
Neurogenic bladder and bowel- dysfunction due to disease of CNS
Speech, cognition
