Mucinoses Flashcards
Primary dermal mucins under normal conditions
Sulfated mucopolysaccharides - chondroitin sulfate and heparin sulfate
Increased mucin in the skin (besides obvious like SLE)
Degos, PUVA, retinoids
MC organ involved in scleromyxedema
GI
May be associated with scleromyxedema
Hep C, raynauds, dysphasia, carpal tunnel (making it hard to distinguish from scleroderma)
Follicular mucinosis
Mucin accumulates in sebaceous gland and ORS.
Syringolymphoid hyperplasia should raise concern for lymphoma
*sensory disturbance may be noted
Tx- spontaneous involution may occur in kids, topical steroids, plaquinel
Follicular MF
Worse prognosis than classic CTCL
Myxoid cysts
May occur subungual, proximal nail file, DIP
No true lining
F > M and OA is frequently seen in the DIP
If able to reduce then they connect to joint space
Multiple myxoid cysts seen in
CTD
