When should Helicopter Transportation be considered? (3)
- when time and distance affect ground transportation and time
- when sufficient ambulances are unavailable
- when patients are in locations inaccessible to ground units
When should Helicopter Medical Transportation be considered? (3)
- immediate trauma patients requiring urgent surgery
- patients requiring specialized treatment (OB, pediatric, burns, neurological)
- any other patient that Medical Control deems necessary
What should be done if anything becomes unsafe during the approach of any helicopter during landing operations?
Instruct the pilot to GO AROUND three times
How large should the landing zone be for each helicopter?
at least 100’ x 100’
How far away should all spectators, vehicle traffic, and animals be kept away from the landing zone?

Never - at no time shall personnel pass behind the body of the helicopter and the tail rotor

from the front or 45 degrees from the front, in a crouching position and remain in view of the pilot
How far away should you stage patients waiting to be loaded on helicopter?
at least 150 feet away

- Concrete
