How early should oral motion sickness medications be taken before doing the activity that makes them have motion sickness?
30-60 minutes
Scopolamine should be applied at least 4 hours before
How often to apply scopolamine patch?
every 3 days PRN
Scopolamine CI, SE, and notes
CI: hypersensitivity to belladonna, angle closure glaucoma
SE: Dry mouth, CNS effects, stinging of the eyes and pupil dilation if eyes are touched, increased IOP
Do not drive d/t high level of sedation, dizziness, and confusion
Remove before MRI
Dimenhydrinate (Dramamine) warnings and SE
Warnings: CNS depression, increased IOP (glaucoma)
SE: Dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, blurry vision
Meclizine (Dramamine All Day Less Drowsy) Warnings, SE, notes
Warnings: CNS depression, increased IOP (glaucoma)
SE: sedation, dry mouth, dry/blurry vision
Notes: commonly used for vertigo
