Q

Where is the dermis layer found, and what is it composed of?

Q

Where is the hypodermis (subcutaneous) layer found, and what is it composed of?

A

Hyperdermis is the fat layer under the skin or the subcutaneous tissue. It is made up of loose connective tissue. Hypodermis that mostly composed mostly of adipose tissue is called subcutaneous fat.

Q

What is left of the cells by the time they reach the stratum corneum (outermost layer)?

A

By the time the cells reach the outermost layer which is the statum corneum, all thats left of the dead cells is their keratin. The flat cells called keratinocytes replace the dead cell that flake away with daily wear

Q

What is the function of the stratum corneum?

A

Strateum corneum function where dead skin cells are getting rid of. It is a protective layer that stops water from getting into your body from the outside, but it still lets it moisture from your body evaporate outwards. It keeps us dry but allows our skin to breathe

Q

What cells produce melanin. What is the role of melanin?

A

The cells that produce melanin are melanocytes. Melanin determines our skin color and it protects us from uv. Uv exposure means the sun and being there too much can cause sunburn

Q

Where are eccrine glands found?

A

The eccrine glands are found in the dermis.

14
Q

What do eccrine glands produce, and why?

A

The eccrine glands produce sweat which contains potassium, ammonia, lactic acid, uric acid, and other wastes. The whole purpose of sweat is to cool down our body when we are too hot

15
Q

What are Apocrine glands? What do they produce and why?

A

Apocrine glands are found in hair follicles such as the armpits and groin area. They are scent glands. Once we sweat due to stress that is the apocrine glands. It release its product to the hair follicles it also produces body odor.

16
Q

What are sebaceous glands? What is the role of sebum?

A

Sebecuous glands- secrete an oily substance called sebum and this helps the skin and hair from drying out and becoming brittle and t helps the skin to be moisturized as well.

17
Q

The type of gland that is found in the ear carnal and produces ear wax

A

Ceruminous glands

18
Q

Does the epithelial tissue have a blood supply?

A

no

19
Q

Which glands secrete sweat onto the skin’s surface?

A

Eccrine Glands
