raised, crusted border around a center ulcer
- fair-skinned patients, hx sun exposure

lobe: lower portion
outer ear aids in
receiving sound waves from the environment
infected pierced lobes s/s
warm
tender
erythematous
exudates
cerumen impaction
inc. amounts of heard cerumen occluding the external ear canal
dx cerumen impaction
patient s/s
prevention of needed assessment of ear (unable to visualize TM)
cerumen impaction s/s
unilateral or bilateral fullness
hearing loss
otalgia
itching
discomfort
tinnitus
cough
vertigo
dizzy
to assess the ear
adults: pinna pulled up and backward
children: ear pulled downward
contraindication to putting fluid in ear
hx:
- ruptured TM
- tubes
- recent ear surgery
