USS repeated after 1 wk to ensure heartbeat develops
USS - crown-rump length of 7mm or more, without a fetal heartbeat
scan repeated after 1wk before confirming non-viable pregnancy
when is a fetal pole expected
once mean gestational sac diameter is 25mm or more
USS - mean gestational sac diameter of 25mm or more, without a fetal pole
the scan is repeated after one week before confirming an anembryonic pregnancy
Mx - <6wks gestation
expectant Mx as long as have no pain, complications or risk factors (e.g. prev ectopic)
wait misscarriage w/o Ix or Rx
urine pregnancy test after 7-10days to confirm miscarriage
why is USS not helpful <6wks gestation
pregnancy too small to be seen
Mx - >6wks gestation

- medical - misoprostol
- surgicla

misoprostol (prostaglandin analogue)
expedites miscarriage
can be given as suppository or oral
misoprostol side effects
heavier bleeding
pain
vomit
diarrhoea
