Mx - when due to infection
flucloxacillin (or erythromycin if pen allergic)
continue breastfeeding
express millk
complication
abscess if not adequately treated
candida of nipple
can occur often after course of antibx
how can candida of nipple lead to recurrent mastitis
it causes cracked skin on nipple that creates entrance for infection
candida of nipple - features
bilaterally sore nippled
nipple tenderness and itch
cracked, flaky, shinty areola
symptoms in baby - white patches mouth/tongue, candidal nappy rash
candida of nipple - Mx
topical miconazole 2% after each breastfeed for mum
treatment for baby e..g miconazole gel or nystatin
