- The devyse was a plan created by Northumbaland whcih was done so as to alter the succession line.

- 1553 he therefore decided to pass a parliament bill devyse and have it ratfieid which would change the line of scuession to lady jane greay

- Somersets had a huge focus on Scotland
- His aim was to have edward married to the infant mary queen of scots, and thereby unite both the houses
- He wanted to defeat the scots in batttle, build and garrison an number of forts in the border and south of scotland so as to force the scots into surrender

- The garrison and fort building enedevour became too costly for somerset to handle
- The English couldn’ty capture the signficant castles in edinburgh such as Dunbar
- Underestimated the cooperation between the scottish and the french
- He failed at stopping the French aid to scotland and therefore they were able to recapture edinburgh
- This had disastorous consequeunces since then MQS was able to be moved to marry the dauphin of france who was heir to the french throne
- this had disastorous consequences since it meant that not only did he spend 500,000 pounds he also furthur debased the coinage and furthur led to inflation
- he didn’t achieve his main fp goal of having edward and mary married
- he was also vunerable to french invasion in 1549 when england was very vunerable due to the threat of the rebellions which furthur soured his relation with the pirvy chamber

- Northurmblanads FP was a huge success
- He was able to make peace with France and Scotland
- He was able to make peace with France by singining the Treaty of Boulgne 1550 which ensured he returned it back to france which some consdiered to be a humiliaiting defeat, but had great financial benefit since france paid 133,000 pounds for it
- He also removed all garrisons from the scottish border therefore his FP iniatives helped stablise the crowns financial position
