Q

Overall why was Somersets FP a failure?

A
  • The garrison and fort building enedevour became too costly for somerset to handle
  • The English couldn’ty capture the signficant castles in edinburgh such as Dunbar
  • Underestimated the cooperation between the scottish and the french
  • He failed at stopping the French aid to scotland and therefore they were able to recapture edinburgh
  • This had disastorous consequeunces since then MQS was able to be moved to marry the dauphin of france who was heir to the french throne
  • this had disastorous consequences since it meant that not only did he spend 500,000 pounds he also furthur debased the coinage and furthur led to inflation
  • he didn’t achieve his main fp goal of having edward and mary married
  • he was also vunerable to french invasion in 1549 when england was very vunerable due to the threat of the rebellions which furthur soured his relation with the pirvy chamber
