- The relation with france greatly detoriated and resulted in war in 1557 becuase spain was at war with it as well, and therefore mary felt compelled to help spain out and listen to her advisors and husband simon renard and phillip 2
- The battle intially was succesfully at the siege of st quentin which was done correctly and enabled victory for spain and england
- they also defended a small scottish incursion well into england
- in 1558 the humiliating defeat of calais happened which was greatly detrimental to england and english pride it also greatly damaged marys reputation
- There was also no material gain for the spanish war, but was a far that was forced without any gain only loss of calais

- She reformed the navy by building 6 new ships
- Many ships were repaired
- 14,000 were allocated to the navy during peacetime
- rising armys headed under lord lietenents were created by elizabeth which helped to prevent rebelleions
- the ships helped with armada
- therefore highly succesful organisation of the milatary
