Why did inflation occur under somerset?
A
- During the later years of henry 8ths reign, the inflation issue became much worse and this was due to the debasemnet of the coinage which led to incrased amount of inflqation and a decrease in real wages
- Somerset it got even worse he continued to carry on the policy of debasemtn to fund his wars with scotland which were costing 500,000, and led to furthur inflation and caused even more social distress
- Poor harvest in 1548 furthur worsened the issue

Why was enclosure a issue under somerset and what did he do about it?
A
- Enclosure was a huge issue under somerset he set up a enclosure commision to help sort the issue out, but the commision wasn’t very effective at all
- He also tried to issue a sheep tax since much of enclsure was done so that arable land could be turned to apsture for grazing of sheep
- He therefore felt by having a sheep tax it would lead to less enclusure, but it failed and onyl caused more distress to small farmers and was a factor in western rebellion

A
- northumberland achived a reasonable stability
- he did this by ending the wars with scotland and france
- he also gave bologne back to france which was very expensive for england to maintain, and therefore saved money in maintaining bolougne and also got 133,000 from france for it
- He stopped debasement of the coinage and this therefore helped to stopping inflation
- He also tried to extract more money from churchlands by unifying dioecses and bishopricks
