microscopes Flashcards
how does the mirror work on a microscope
the mirror can be a light source and reflects the light from the room upwards
the light passes to the objective and eyepiece lens and the light rays spread through so we can see the image
what magnifications does the objective lens have
4x, 10x, 40x
what magnifications does the eyepiece have
10x
stage 1 - using microscope
clip the slide onto the stage
stage 2
select lowest power objective lens and position the objective lens so that it almost touches the slide by turning the course focusing knob, make sure your looking out to the side whilst doing so
stage 3
when it almost touches stop turning the dial
now look down at the eyepiece and turn the course dial so there is an increased distance between the objective and slide until cells are in focus
stage 4
use fine focusing dial to bring cells into a clear focus
what is the equation for total magnification
objective mag x eyepiece mag
what is the equation for magnification
image size divided by object size
